E-T Staff Report

Amber Lewis racked up seven RBI in two games and MeKyla Leatherwood picked up a pair of wins from the pitcher’s circle as Dublin claimed first place in the silver bracket of the Graham Tournament last weekend.

Dublin began silver bracket play with a 6-5 defeat of 4A Wichita Falls Rider. The Lady Lions jumped on top in each of their first two at bats only to see Rider respond when it was the Raiders’ turn at the plate.

Dublin scored two in the top of the first and three in the second, but Rider came back with one run in the bottom of the first and four in its half of the second for a 5-5 tie after two.

The bats slowed and the defense picked up the rest of the way, but the Lady Lions did manage one final tally in the fifth for the win.

Lewis had 2 RBI against Rider, as did Wakely Brown. Both posted doubles. Leatherwood also drove in a run in addition to her duties in the circle.

The final game wouldn’t be near as dramatic for Dublin, as the Lady Lions jumped on Merkel quick and early.

Three big innings - a four-run first, a seven-run third and a six-run fifth - fueled the 19-0 blowout.

Lewis went crazy with a double and 5 RBI at the plate, while Kendra Cannon drove in three runs, Cayla Beck and Shelby Thiebaud each had 2 RBI and three others - Kristin Rayborn, Mariah Reeder and Brown each had one.

Leatherwood pitched the first three innings and gave up just one hit before turning it over to Brown for the final six outs.

Dublin and Merkel had played just two days prior in pool action, and the Lady Lions had to overcome a 5-0 hole to win, 6-5.

The Lady Lions now shift their focus to District 8-2A play. They begin league action tonight in San Saba before hosting a tournament in Dublin this weekend.
