A sudden blast of icy weather has forced sporting events throughout the area, ranging all the way from the Stephenville Parks and Recreation Departmentís games to Tarleton Stateís road games in Oklahoma, to be cancelled.
The Knights of Columbusí annual free throw contest, which was set to be held in the SPARD Rec Hall Saturday afternoon, was also cancelled.
Dan Delgado, the groupís program director, said the event would be rescheduled, at a date to be determined next week.
All of SPARDís Saturday games were cancelled to due to bad weather.
The TexAnns and No. 21 Texans were set to take the floor versus Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla. Saturday afternoon, but both squads returned home Friday.
ďWe donít want to put the lives of our student-athletes and staff in danger,Ē said Lonn Reisman, Tarleton head menís basketball coach and athletics director.
ďWe are not sure whether we will be able to reschedule the contests due to a full schedule, but we donít want to get to Tahlequah and get stuck there until Monday or Tuesday due to weather. Especially since we open Lone Star Conference South Division play Wednesday in Kingsville.Ē
All but one of the LSCís double-headers scheduled for Saturday were cancelled. Both squads are scheduled to travel to face Texas A&M-Kingsville Wednesday. The women tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8.
