The sixth annual Knights of Columbus-Dublin Dr Pepper “Challenge of Champions” Invitational Soccer Tournament is set for this weekend.

The tournament, presented by Southwest Dairy Farmers, will be held at the Stephenville Soccer Complex.

“With 24 teams competing, the tournament is going to be an economic plus for the Stephenville area,” said Steve Williams, who was in charge of team recruitment.

“Especially with teams coming from as far away as the Panhandle, motels and restaurants should benefit from the schools entered, some of which will be in town for two days and nights. I hope everybody will come out and see the best soccer played in our community during the two days of the tournament.”

A field of 12 high school teams will play in both the boys’ and girls’ brackets.

The boys’ field includes Lampasas, Everman, Abilene, Brownwood, Marble Falls, Fort Worth Brewer, Burkburnett, Abilene Wylie, Canyon Randall, Gainseville, Granbury and Stephenville.

The girls’ side includes Eastern Hills, Waco University, Everman, Brownwood, Marble Falls, Fort Worth Brewer, Abilene, Lampasas, Canyon Randall, Waco Robinson and Stephenville.

Tournament pool play begins Friday morning at 10 a.m. and continues with evening matches under the lights at 7 p.m. Saturday’s action begins at 9 a.m., with both the consolation and championship matches slated for 2:30 p.m.
