The Tarleton State TexAnns have carved out a spot among the nation’s best golf teams — Wednesday they get their shot at the top in their first appearance at the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships.

Tarleton will be competing with seven other teams at Stonebrook Golf Club in Pensacola, Fla. The tournament is hosted by the University of West Florida.

The TexAnns, ranked No. 13 nationally, won the West Regional tournament last week after leading from start to finish.

The regional championship is Tarleton’s first in women’s golf, and was keyed by freshman Shraddhanjali Singh’s first-place finish.

Tarleton’s team of Singh, Jodi Neal, Alesha Hurt, Lauren Martinez and Kerri Self will take on squads from Florida Southern, Rollins, Ferris State, Drury, Northeastern State, North Dakota and Truman.

Last year, Rollins outlasted Ferris State to clinch their fourth straight title.
