Stephenville High School’s cross country teams opened their 2020 schedule Wednesday in the Brownwood Invitational, with the Yellow Jackets placing second overall in the boys team standings and the Honeybees placing third among the girls.


"Overall, I was pleased with both groups," SHS cross country coach Beth Phelps said of the meet, which was based at Gordon Wood Stadium. "it was an extremely competitive meet and we got better."


Mitchell Pack placed third overall for the Yellow Jackets, while Cullin Rumsey took sixth place. Eduardo Juarez posted a personal-best time in finishing 10th.


Stephenville’s Amiah Rodriguez took fifth place among the girls, and teammate Lilah Richards placed eighth.


Also for the SHS boys, Daniel Osornio was 15th, Miguel Moreno 33rd and Cody Miller 35th.


Other Honeybees who competed in Brownwood were Kenna Cashon, who finished 22nd; Ansley Meza, 24th; Seren Fowler, 27th; and Marisa Otero, 31st.
