The day after Texas Girls Coaches Association placed Stephenville High School’s volleyball squad at No. 6 in its Class 4A top 10 state rankings, the Honeybees easily survived a test from No. 7 — Graham.

The Honeybees swept the previously unbeaten Lady Blues, 25-13, 25-19, 25-22 Tuesday evening in Gandy Gym. That victory improved the Bees’ season record to 6-0.

Stephenville also prevailed over Graham in the junior varsity match, 25-15, 16-25, 25-19.

SHS had two games scheduled Friday, Aug. 21 (versus Troy and Monahans, at 5 and 8 p.m., respectively) and two more today (Saturday, Aug. 22) on the schedule (against Sweetwater at 10 a.m. and top-ranked 4A school Krum at 1 p.m.).

The varsity Bees have dropped only one set so far this season in their six outings, and head coach Shay Douglas indicated that the Bees continued to show improvement in the win over Graham.

"I thought, collectively, we got better," Douglas said. "I saw hustle on the defensive side. I saw us picking up a lot more off-speed stuff.

"Offensively, when we stayed aggressive we were most successful. I kept telling them to stay aggressive. I thought our setters did a good job of moving the ball around, and they were feeding the ball where it needed to be. Props to our defense for being scrappy."

Next week, the Bees are scheduled to play at Godley on Tuesday, with the varsity match set for 6 p.m. They will be playing at home again on Friday in dual matches versus Brock and Llano, and Saturday against Peaster.
