Big Country Fellowship of Christian Athletes staff members recently traveled to area schools and presented the organization’s 2020 all-stars with a personalized jersey, plaque and a Bible.

In all, more than 320 members of the Big County FCA were selected as all-stars this year, but the 2020 FCA All-Star Festival events had to be canceled because of the COVID-19 virus pandemic.

Stephenville High School had a total of 14 student-athletes who had earned all-star designation, while Dublin High School had nine selected.

Three Erath County coaches were invited as well. They were SHS head football coach Sterling Doty, Dublin girls basketball coach Britney Helton and Three Way High School boys basketball coach John Barnes.

All-Star Festival events had been planned in Abilene, Brownwood, Eastland and San Angelo in June. The All-Star induction and awards banquet, which was also canceled, had been scheduled for May 4 in Abilene.

The all-star honorees from SHS were: Denton Heller (boys golf), Alee Mainord (girls golf), J.R. Haile (baseball), Maggie Watson (softball), Skylar Stilwell (boys basketball), Mikayla Diaz (girls basketball), volleyball players Karlee Easterling, Gabie Lucero, Aubreyanna Ziegler, and football players Caden Cowan, Daniel Luna, Cole Stanley, Quentin Walker and Caleb Smith.

Dublin’s all-stars were: Cameron Davidson (softball), Griffin Pickett (baseball), Austin Baugh (boys golf), Jordyn Ricks (girls basketball), Jordan Mullin (boys basketball), and football players Colton Couch, Hagen Huffman and Cy Wing.

The Big Country FCA covers 37 counties including the Cross Timbers/Stephenville area, Brownwood, the Concho Valley and Abilene. The sports represented are football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, golf and cheerleading.

In April, senior Stephenville football player Asher Dittfurth was chosen as the Big Country FCA’s Rex Fleming Memorial Male Athlete of the Year, and SHS assistant football coach Chad Hodges was selected as the Big Country FCA’s Cross Timbers Huddle Coach of the Year.

Also, Dublin head football coach and Athletic Director Bob Cervetto was named by the Big Country FCA as the Eddie Hodges Memorial Coach of the Year for 2020.
