The Stephenville High School Yellow Jackets opened play Thursday against the host school in the three-day Wimberley High School Baseball Tournament, falling by a 6-4 count to the Texans.

Stephenville, which out-hit the Texans, 9-8, slipped to 6-3-1 on the season.

Trace Morrison, John-Rex Haile, Cade Wright and Daniel Luna drove in one run apiece for the Jackets.

Also for SHS, Tyeler Reed was 3-for3 at the plate and Charlie Hughes was 2-for-3. Reed and Morrison doubled.

The Yellow Jackets found themselves trailing 3-0 at the end of the first inning, then pulled within 3-1 in the third. Wimberley added a run in the fourth before SHS scored twice in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to 5-2.

The Texans went on top 6-2 with another single run in the fifth. The Jackets were able to tack on another run in the sixth, but could get no more.

Kason Seider started on the mound and worked five innings in taking the loss. He allowed six runs — only two earned — on seven hits, striking out one and walking two.

Kelvin Ong pitched one inning in relief, giving up no runs on one hit and striking out one.

As of press time Friday morning, the Jackets’ next game in the tournament, against St. Michael’s High School, was in progress.

Following the tournament, the next game scheduled for SHS is March 17 at Cleburne.
