The Stephenville High School Honeybees won three of their six games in the Honeybee Softball Classic held last Thursday through Saturday at the new SHS field.
Coach Meagan Diaz’s Honeybees are now 4-6 overall this season.
Their wins in the tournament were 9-5 over Fort Worth Lake Country Christian, 10-2 over Breckenridge and 8-7 over Springtown.
Stephenville’s losses in the tournament were 15-11 to Cisco, 14-2 to Aubrey and 19-0 to Krum.
The Honeybees were scheduled to play Tuesday (March 3) at Azle (varsity at 7 p.m.). Next will be the Granbury Lady Pirates tournament, March 5-7. The Bees will play at home again on March 13 versus Alvarado (varsity at 7).
In the Cisco contest, Emily Wehnert had three runs batted in with a home run and a single, and Katie McIrvin drove in two runs, and had a single and a pair of stolen bases. Jaylee Matthews had two hits, two stolen bases and one RBI, while Jordan Wilkins, Brooke Terry, Jettie Funderburgh and Gracie Bales all had one hit each.
In the Aubrey game Thursday night, Wilkins had an RBI and a hit, and McIrvin and Matthews also had singles.
Against Lake Country Christian, Tomlinson, McIrvin, Wilkins and Ellie Hodgen recorded one RBI apiece. Tomlinson tripled and singled, and added two stolen bases.
Versus Breckenridge, Jaylee Matthews pitched and struck out four. The two SHS runs were driven in by Tomlinson, with a double, and Maggie Watson with a single. Other hits were provided by McIrvin (triple), Wilkins (double), Funderburgh (double), Wehnert, Bales and Maya Saldivar.
In the Springtown game, Tomlinson homered and doubled, driving in two runs, while Bales doubled and had three RBI, Funderburgh drove in a pair of runs, and Matthews hit a triple that produced a run. McIrvin, Wilkins and Watson had one hit apiece.
In their loss to Krum, Kaida Tomlinson recorded a pair of hits for the Bees.
