The Stephenville High School boys soccer team defeated Mineral Wells Tuesday at Lem Brock Field, winning on penalty kicks in a shootout after the two squads finished regulation tied at 2-all.

The victory improved coach Taylor Smith’s Yellow Jackets to 2-1 in the three-team District 6-4A alignment.

In their first matchup against the Rams, Feb. 14 on the road, the Jackets suffered a loss, also on penalty kicks after tying 2-2 in regulation.

The Jackets who scored in the shootout for the home win Tuesday were Jorge Gallegos, John Binkley, Miguel Moreno and J.J. Saldana.

In regulation, Saldana gave the Jackets a 1-0 lead with a goal in the first half.

The Rams took a 2-0 lead early in the second half before Gallegos scored to tie it, getting an assist from Juan Guevara, before the Rams tied it to force the shootout.

The Jackets, who are 11-7-2 overall, were idle Friday. They are scheduled to return to district play on Tuesday, March 3, at Brownwood.

The final district game, which will be at home versus Brownwood, has been changed to Friday, March 20.
