The Stephenville High School Honeybees improved to 2-1 on the season Tuesday night on the road with a 46-27 victory over China Spring.
Alee McClendon led SHS in scoring with 15 points and Jaylee Matthews added 14.
First-year head coach Jason Hodges’ Honeybees were scheduled to play on Friday (Nov. 22) night (varsity only, 6:30) at Lorena. Their next game is set for Monday, Nov. 25, at Graham (varsity at 2 p.m.), followed by one last game before the Thanksgiving break, Tuesday at home against Granbury (3 p.m.).
Because of early deadlines for the upcoming Thanksgiving week, results of those games in the print version of the E-T won’t be published until the Nov. 30 edition.
Other scorers in the win over China Spring were Landri Withers with 7, Mikayla Diaz with 4, and Kassidy Nowak, Bella Diaz and Jettie Funderburgh with 2 each.
SHS gained an 11-6 lead in the opening quarter, and held a 22-14 margin at halftime.
After outscoring China Spring 9-6 in the third quarter, the Bees extended their lead with a 15-7 scoring advantage in the final quarter.
China Spring is a Class 4A school that is in Stephenville’s football district but competes in District 18-4A (Region III) in basketball with Lorena and Gatesville, along with Waco-area schools Connally, La Vega and Robinson.
Stephenville’s basketball teams compete in District 7-4A (Region I) against Brownwood, Glen Rose, Mineral Wells and Godley.
