SHS squads qualify for regional in cross country

Stephenville High School’s Amiah Rodriguez won the varsity girls District 7-4A cross country individual championship to help the Honeybees qualify for the regional meet, and the SHS boys squad also advanced as the boys team champions by taking five of the top seven positions Tuesday morning at Stephenville’s City Park.

The top three teams and top 10 individuals in the varsity girls and boys divisions qualified for the regional meet, Oct. 28 in Lubbock.

Mitchell Pack placed second among the boys, followed by teammates Alfonso Moreno, Kyle Styron and Daniel Osornio in third, fourth and fifth, and Alex Loyola in seventh place. Cullin Rumsey gave the Jackets six of the top 10 positions, in 10th place.

Rodriguez, a sophomore, posted a winning time of 12:25 on the girls 3,200-meter course.

Pack, a sophomore and runner-up to senior boys district champion Orrin Miller of Glen Rose, posted a time of 18:17 on the boys 5,000-meter course.

Lila Richards placed ninth for the Honeybees, helping them place second in the girls team standings. The top three teams and top 10 individuals advance to the regional meet, which is set for Oct. 28 in Lubbock.
