No. 14 Tarleton Volleyball returned home and posted its second straight conference sweep with a straight-sets win over Cameron on Friday in the Wisdom Volleyball Gym.
The Texans improve to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the LSC play. In the three sets, the Texans outscored the Aggies 75- 41 (25-11, 25-19, 25-11) and while hitting .310 for the match and holding the Aggies to a -.029 hitting percentage.
Tatyana Tuialii-Umi led all players with 11 kills and hit .500 while Adriana Darthuy posted nine kills and hit .400.
Tarleton opened the first set with a 14-5 lead and never looked back. The Texans had runs of 5-0 and 8-0 to pull ahead of the Aggies. Back-to-back service aces by Lauren Kersey gave the Texans their first double-digit lead of the set at 17-7 and they never led by less than 10 the rest of the way.
The second set took a late push by the Texans to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Tarleton led 17-15 midway through the set before two straight kills by Amber Strange gave the Texans some breathing room. Strange's points led to a 4-0 run by the Texans and a 22-16 lead. Up 23-19, Tuialii-Umi and Darthuy powered down the final two points to take the set.
The Texans never trailed in the third set as they doubled up the Aggies halfway through with a 14-7 advantage on Kersey's third ace of the match. Leading 16-10, the Texans closed the match out in dominating fashion by taking nine of the next 10 points to complete the sweep.
Defensively, the Texans dominated with four players recording three blocks at the net led by Darthuy's five blocks. Sofia Tonga added four blocks and Tuialii-umi and Kersey each had three. Michaela Rodriguez led all players with 17 digs. Amari Franklin paced the offense with a game-high 20 assists.
