Jackets post easy win over Eastland, 64-29
The Stephenville Yellow Jackets boys basketball squad has shown improvement on defense, coinciding with their recent winning trend as they get ready to head into the Christmas break.
Their 64-29 domination of Eastland on the road last Friday night was their third consecutive win.
That lifted the Jackets’ season record to 7-10. They won their final game in the Glen Rose Lions Club Tournament over Johnson City on Dec. 8, then topped Benbrook on Dec. 11.
In the victory over Eastland, the Jackets had four players who scored at least eight points. Grayson Traweek led the way with 18 points, including eight in the second quarter.
Cody Storrs added 11 points for SHS, while Skylar Stilwell chipped in nine points and Chase Griffin scored eight.
“Against Eastland we shot the ball well and our coaching staff also saw improvement on the defensive end,” SHS head coach Bill Brooks said. “We still have a few things to work on, but had a great week of basketball.”
The Yellow Jackets are scheduled to play Tuesday (Dec. 18) at Decatur in their final contest before the Christmas holiday break. The Eagles are currently ranked No. 10 in the state in Class 4A.
“That game will be a good test to where we are as a team,” Brooks said. “Our guys are looking forward to the competition.”
After the break, the Yellow Jackets will be playing Dec. 28-29 in the Glen Rose Shootout (varsity only). Game times specific opponents are not yet available.
After taking on Gatesville at home Jan. 2 and traveling to Alvarado Jan. 3, the Jackets will be opening District 7-4A play at home on Friday, Jan. 11 against Godley.
