The Stephenville Honeybees held Hallsville to just four points in the fourth quarter Thursday afternoon in a 56-26 girls basketball victory in the first round of the Great East Texas Shootout in Brownsboro, improving to 10-2 on the season.

Madison Gilder led the Honeybees in scoring with 19 points. Teammates Hannah Bernays and Alee McClendon added 14 points each.

The Honeybees advanced to the second round of the tournament, but the results of that game were not available by press time.

Stephenville’s defense allowed just two field goals in the first and fourth quarters against Hallsville. The Honeybees led 29-15 at halftime, and stretched the advantage to 41-22 by the end of the third quarter.

On Tuesday, at home in Gandy Gym, the Honeybees defeated Grandview, 52-34, getting 17 points from McClendon.

“Our defense was very aggressive, and (we) executed well on offense,” Thorpe stated after the Grandview contest.

The tournament in Brownsboro will conclude on Saturday.

The Honeybees’ next action will be another non-district contest Tuesday at home against Venus. The varsity is scheduled for 6 p.m.
