As the month of November comes to a close, the athletics action continues to heat up as the Tarleton Football and Volleyball teams are enjoying record playoff runs and the Tarleton Basketball team prepares to begin conference play this weekend in Wisdom Gym.
The football team has advanced to the NCAA Division II Regional Finals for the first time in program history with a program-best 12-0 start to the season. The Texans are one of eight football teams still vying for a shot at the NCAA Division II National Championship, which is scheduled to be in McKinney, Texas on Dec. 15, and will square off with the nation and region's top-rated team Minnesota State-Mankato this Saturday at 12 p.m. CT.
The volleyball team is a week removed from its first-ever regional championship and are also among the nation's final eight teams competing for the national title. The TexAnns are headed to the NCAA Division II National Championships Festival in Pittsburgh this week. Tarleton will face off with Western Washington, the champions of the West Region, in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. CT at the A.J. Palumbo Center on the campus of Duquesne University.
There will not be any Tarleton-sponsored watch parties for the events, however, there will be free live streams and audio broadcasts of both football and volleyball. Links can be found on the team's schedules at TarletonSports.com, as well as the game day previews and social media channels.
Meanwhile, the action in Stephenville will continue to be delivered at a high level as the Tarleton basketball teams welcome conference rivals Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State to town on Thursday and Saturday to begin Lone Star Conference play. Saturday's event will be the annual 'Toys for Kids' Day, in addition to other promotions. Anyone who donates a new, unwrapped toy will receive free admission. One ticket per toy.
The TexAnns are 4-1 this season and coming off an upset of No. 10 Lubbock Christian last weekend. Kaylee Allen was named the LSC's Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week for her performance. The Texans are 5-1 on the season and dominated Oklahoma Panhandle from start to finish last Saturday afternoon.
