Hannah McManus is a 6-1 senior middle blocker from Caldwell playing volleyball for the nationally ranked Tarleton State University TexAnns.

On Saturday, McManus helped lead the TexAnns to a victory over Texas A&M-Commerce three sets to one at home in Wisdom Gym, earning a berth as the No. 6 seed in the upcoming NCAA Division II national tournament. They are ranked 12th in the nation with a record of 32-4, and will take on third-seeded Western Washington Nov. 29 in the opening round of the national tournament in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

As a junior last season, McManus was a second-team all-Lone Star Conference performer. She also made the LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll for a third straight year, and was named CoSIDA academic all-district. She led last year’s team with a .299 hitting percentage overall.

McManus, a kinesiology major, had a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for the fall semester of her sophomore year, when she posted career highs in kills and blocked shots.

She lettered in volleyball all four years at Caldwell High School and was a three-time all-state selection. Her senior year there, she was named as the team’s Most Valuable Player and Offensive MVP.

The E-T served up five questions for McManus, and here is how she responded:

E-T: Did you have a second-favorite sport, behind volleyball?

McManus: “I loved basketball. My junior year (in high school), I decided volleyball is where I wanted to be. I definitely, up to that point, loved both equally.”

E-T: Did you set a goal for yourself in volleyball?

McManus: “I definitely think my goal is just really to get better each game. I think stats are important, but I would rather play to win rather than to beat a number in the stats book.”

E-T: What has been the highlight of your volleyball career (entering the current season)?

McManus: “Something that stands out is what a fun environment it is in Wisdom Gym. The Plowboys (a TSU student spirit organization) get the crowd pumped.”

E-T: Do you have a favorite hobby?

McManus: “I really like to do arts and crafts. I like to paint things. I like to play with my dog (a German shepherd/boxer mix). I rescued her from the Erath County Humane Society.

E-T: What would be your dream occupation?

McManus: “I want to be an exercise physiologist. I want to work at a hospital and run stress tests.”
