GRANBURY — Alee McClendon scored 10 of her game-high 15 points in the second quarter Friday to help the Stephenville Honeybees pull away from Lorena for a 38-27 non-district girls basketball victory over the Class 4A Lady Bobcats.

The Honeybees improved to 3-0 on the season with the win over the Class 4A Lady Bobcats. The game was moved from Lorena to Pirate Gym in Granbury because the SHS football team played Fort Worth Dunbar in Granbury that night.

The Honeybees were in a tight battle in the opening quarter, and trailed 10-9 entering the second quarter. But SHS outscored Lorena 12-4 in the second quarter and 13-5 in the third to pull away.

“We started making some shots. That was big,” SHS head coach Alan Thorpe said, noting that his players started “seeing the open person” more as the game went along. “They’re (Lorena) good offensively. We had to make a couple of adjustments on defense. I thought we played better tonight than we played against Granbury.”

The win over Class 5A Granbury was a 50-43 overtime effort on the road.

The Honeybees had trailed Lorena 24-20 at intermission.

Jayci Morton contributed nine points for the Honeybees, and Kassidy Nowak added six points.

The Honeybees are scheduled to play on Monday, Nov. 19, at home against Eastland (12:30 p.m.), and on Tuesday at Jacksboro (noon tipoff). Their next game following the Thanksgiving break will be Tuesday, Nov. 27, at home against Aledo (varsity at 6 p.m.).
