Stephenville High School’s Class 4A cross country teams competed “up” in the division for Class 5A and 6A schools Friday in the Cleburne Invitational Buzz Run meet, and the Honeybees came home with fourth place among 36 teams.

The three teams that placed ahead of the SHS girls were all from 6A schools, and three individuals finished among the top 20, coach Kristi Mayes said.

Presley Wall led the Honeybees with a 12th-place finish with a time of 19:06.17. Next for the SHS girls were Emily Kirbo at 19th (19:29.10) and Amiah Rodriguez (19:40.97), 19th and 20th, respectively, and Anahi Rivas 77th (21:23.28) and Reagan Henry 81st (21:31.68).

“It was a total team effort, as Rivas, (Kassidy) Nowak, Henry and (Macayla) McCann held their own against some great competition,” said Mayes, who added that competing in the larger school division also meant running a 5K race instead of 2 miles, “so our girls really ‘beasted up’ and held nothing back.”

Among the boys, the Yellow Jackets placed 25th out of 36 teams.

Christian Brown led the SHS boys, finishing in 19th place (16:11.76), and Luis Carrillo was 36th (16:32.39).

Next for the Jackets were Daniel Osornio (18:43.94), Seth Garza (28:49.83) and Josue Lumbreras (28:49.83).

Next for the SHS varsity teams will be this Saturday in the Lubbock Invitational, starting at 2 p.m.
