As the students return to campus, Tarleton Athletics prepares to open the football season with a Thursday night game for the first time since 2010.

Texan Football enters the ninth season of Todd Whitten's Tarleton career with high hopes after earning an invitation to the fifth bowl game in program history last year. Tarleton returns several key playmakers on each side of the ball, including RBs Xavier Turner(149 carries, 765 yards, 11 TDs), Adam Berryman (72 carries, 365 yards, 5 TDs) and Daniel McCants (61 carries, 306 yards, 2 TDs) on the offensive side. Defensively, Tarleton has all-conference CB Devin Hafford (76 tkls, 2 INT), LB EJ Speed (41 tkls, 8.5 TFL), and All-American DT Tyrell Thompson (57 tkls, 10.0 TFL, 4.5 sacks). Tarleton also returns five starting offensive linemen from a year ago - Deon Sheppard, Jovan Pruitt, Noah Perez, Cody Hayes, and Wesley Hooks.

Tarleton Football is looking to bring its all-time program record back to an even .500. The Texans currently boast an all-time mark of 472-480-33. Head coach Todd Whitten is also four wins shy of 60 in his Tarleton career. Only W.J. Wisdom (1920-35) has at least 60 wins as the head coach of the program.

Away from Stephenville, meanwhile, Tarleton Volleyball looks to build on its 3-1 start to the season with its longest road trip of the season. Tarleton will head to Dixie State in St. George, Utah for four matches in the Dixie State Invitational, beginning with the host Trailblazers on Thursday at 8 p.m. CT. Tarleton will then play UC-Colorado Springs, Adams State, and Arkansas-Fort Smith over the next two days. All four matches will count as regional competition.

Tarleton Volleyball is closing in on a historic mark. Tarleton heads into the weekend looking to put the overall program record over .500 for the first time since 1978. The TexAnns' volleyball program currently has an all-time record of 666-667.
