Jettie Funderburgh drove in four runs, going 2-for-4 with a double and a single Friday night in Graford, to help lead the Stephenville Honeybees to a 12-2 softball victory over Springtown, clinching the best-of-three Class 4A bi-district playoff series, 2-0.
The Honeybees (21-13-1) will now take on Graham in a best-of-three series in the bi-district round of the playoffs in Jacksboro starting with game 1 at 6 p.m. Thursday. The second game will be Friday, also at 6 p.m. If a third game is needed, it will be played Saturday in Jacksboro, but that starting time has not yet been decided.
Skye Gaitan drove in two runs with two hits for the Honeybees in Friday’s win, which clinched that best-of-three series 2-0 after a 9-0 victory on Thursday as Julia Flores hurled the shutout win.
Also contributing to the offensive attack in a big way Friday was Samantha Luna, who was 3-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs. Madison Gilder, Flores, Bianka Garcia, Jessica Ebeling and Allysa Ebeling had one hit each for the Bees.
Flores, Luna, Garcia and Funderburgh scored two runs apiece.
Flores pitched all five innings Friday night to earn the victory on the 10-run rule. She allowed only one earned run on six hits, struck out six and walked just one.
The winner of the SHS-Graham series will move to the area playoff round against either Big Spring or Venus.
