CORPUS CHRISTI - Tarleton rolled through UT Permian Basin in the Lone Star Conference quarterfinals Thursday morning before bowing out of the tournament in the semifinal match against Cameron Friday night at the HEB Tennis Center.
The TexAnns, who were on the bubble at No. 6 in the region in last week's polls, saw their season come to a close with a final record of 10-9.
Match 1: Tarleton 5, UT Permian Basin 2
Tarleton overcame a doubles deficit to win the top four matches in singles and advance to the Lone Star Conference semifinals with a 5-2 win over UT Permian Basin Friday morning.
"UTPB came out with a lot of energy and put us behind after doubles. They were very spirited and fought hard against us today," said head coach Lance Drake. "Our top four sis a really good job and stepped up to move us into the semifinals. I'm proud of the way we rebounded."
Alicia Barbaroux and Sherine Salem took care of business in doubles with an 8-3 win. After the Falcons won the No. 3 match by the same score, the doubles advantage swayed at the No. 2 match but Tarleton fell 9-7.
In singles, Tarleton was dominant - starting with a 6-0, 6-0 rout in the No. 4 match from Erika Johnston. After Johnston evened the match at 2-2, Salem (6-0, 6-1), Neetika Sud (6-1, 6-3) and Alicia Barbaroux (6-0, 6-2) capped off the victory for Tarleton with wins in that order.
Match 2: #19 Cameron 5, Tarleton 0
Tarleton's run through the Lone Star Conference Tournament came to a close with a 5-0 loss to No. 19 Cameron in the semifinals.
"Hats off to Cameron, they played well and we didn't," said Drake. "We made too many errors and put ourselves too far behind to come back against a good team. It's a tough way to end the season, but it was a good year for us with a young group."
Tarleton fell behind after a doubles sweep and Cameron quickly finished off wins in the No. 3 and 6 matches to complete the 5-0 win.
Tarleton closed out the season with an overall record of 10-9. The official NCAA playoff field, which takes the top four teams from each region, will be announced Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
