Winning pitcher Julia Flores helped her own cause by driving in three runs Tuesday as the Stephenville Honeybees overwhelmed Midlothian Heritage 13-3 in their District 8-4A softball contest.
The Honeybees improved to 6-2 in district play, and 18-10-1 overall.
Flores went 2-for-3 with a walk. Morgan DiCiccio and Kristen Pettit also recorded two hits, and scored two runs apiece. Samantha Luna and Bianka Garcia picked up the other two hits for the Honeybees.
DiCiccio drove in two runs, while Jessica Ebeling, Jettie Funderburgh, Madison Gilder and Luna contributed one RBI each.
Flores struck out seven batters and walked none in six innings. She went the distance and gave up all three runs, but only one was earned.
After Heritage opened the game with a two-run top of the first to take the lead, the Honeybees quickly took control of the game. They scored four runs in the bottom of the first, plus three in the second, two in the third, three in the fourth and one in the sixth.
The Honeybees were scheduled to play at home Friday against Godley in their final game of the regular season, which was Senior Night.
