Despite getting a grand slam from Julie Flores, the Stephenville Honeybees suffered an error-filled 16-5 District 8-4A softball loss at home Tuesday to Alvarado.

It was the first loss in three district outings for coach Rus Mayes’ Honeybees, who are now 14-9-1 on the season.

The game was scoreless until the third inning, when both teams scored five runs. But the Lady Indians went ahead 8-5 with three in the fourth, and added two in the sixth and six in the top of the seventh.

Alvarado had 12 hits, and the Honeybees hurt their own cause with 10 errors.

Flores pitched the entire game, but only four of the 16 runs were earned because of the errors. She struck out 10 and walked five.

Madison Gilder was 1-for-3 with a double for the Honeybees. Morgan DiCiccio and Jettie Funderburgh singled.

The Honeybees play at Godley Friday and continue district play on Tuesday at Waxahachie Life School.
