The Stephenville Yellow Jackets ran into Class 5A school Magnolia on Thursday on the opening day of the three-day Wimberly High School baseball tournament and lost a 13-4 decision.

Coach Justin Swenson’s squad was slated to play Llano and Fredericksburg Friday in the round robin tourney. Saturday at 9 a.m. Stephenville is set to play host Wimberly, followed by a 1:30 p.m. game against Burnet.

In the loss to Magnolia, Trevor Easter drove in two runs on two hits for SHS at the plate.

The Jackets were out-hit 8-3, and were charged with four errors. 

Daniel Luna pitched the first three innings and took the loss on the mound for the Jackets.

The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when the Bulldogs picked up six runs.

Magnolia added six more in the fourth, and one in the fifth in the five-inning contest.

Stephenville, now 4-4-1 on the season, will open District 8-4A play on Tuesday night at home, taking on Venus. That game is set to start at 7:30.
