COMMERCE - Tarleton women's basketball snapped its season-long five-game winning streak with a 68-62 loss on the road to Texas A&M-Commerce on Tuesday at The Field House.

The TexAnns (9-6, 3-4) could not overcome their shooting woes, as they shot 32 percent from the floor and went 7-of-30 on 3-pointers (23 percent) in the loss. A&M-Commerce shot 46 percent and 40 percent on 3s in the game. The TexAnn defense did force 27 turnovers, but it only translated into 14 points.

Katie Webster led the TexAnns with 15 points and six rebounds. Mackenzie Hailey added 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists. However, both posts for the TexAnns battled foul trouble down the stretch with four fouls each.

The two teams went back and forth in the first half, trading bucket for bucket. The TexAnns built a 3-point lead in the first quarter on a 3-pointer from McKinley Bostad and later on a jumper from Hailey. Bostad also finished in double figures with 13 points and adding three rebounds with three assists. A&M-Commerce led 16-15 after the opening quarter.

The Lions took the biggest lead of the half at 25-20 but would only lead by one at the break, 29-28. The TexAnns shot 37 percent in the first half and had points from nine different players to keep the game close.

The third quarter was the difference in the game as A&M-Commerce outscored the TexAnns by five in the quarter. Hailey put the TexAnns up 39-38 with a layup with 5:20 left in the quarter, but TAMUC rallied to take a 6-point lead into the fourth quarter.

The TexAnns opened the fourth quarter on an 8-2 run with 3-pointers from Nina Alvarez and Webster to tie the game at 52-52. The Texanns took their first lead since 5:20 in the third quarter on a corner 3-poiinter by Tiara Tatum that made the score 55-54 with 7:47 remaining. However, A&M-Commerce would regain the lead on the following possession and never trailed again. The Lions closed the game on a 7-2 run after it was 61-60 with 3:35 left.

Tatum and Alvarez each scored five points while Kylie Collinsadded four points. Trejouir Wilson (3), Lucy Benson (2) and Baylee Peck (2) rounded out the TexAnn scoring efforts.

Tarleton will travel to Denton to take on Texas Woman's on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 11:30 a.m.
