Tarleton gave No. 2 Queens all they could handle, but ultimately the upset bid came up short as the Royals closed the game on a 13-3 run to win 64-51 on Saturday in Wisdom Gym.

Tarleton (7-5) held Queens (13-0) to 21 points below their season average, but the Texans had their lowest scoring effort of the season, shooting only 32 percent.

The Royals jumped out to a 20-9 lead in the first ten minutes of play. The Texans went on an 11-0 run over the next three minutes to tie the game at 22-22. During the stretch, all 11 points came in the paint for the Texans.

Jaraan Lands gave the Texans their first lead at 26-25 on a layup with 1:14 left in the first half. Lands finished with eight points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Tarleton and Queens were tied at 28-28 at the break.

The Texans and Royals exchanged leads through the first 10 minutes of the second half before a 4-0 Texan run gave them their biggest lead at 41-38 with 11:32 remaining.

Josh Hawley had several high-flying dunks in the game, and his throw-down with 4:45 on the clock made it a 51-47 lead. Hawley finished with a game-high 15 points and 11 in the second half. Hawley was the only Texan to score in double figures.

Queens drilled a corner 3-pointer to give the Royals a seven-point lead with under four minutes to go and the Royals would close out on a 6-0 run to remain unbeaten.

Corinthian Ramsey added nine points and six assists off the bench, while Deshawn Riddick, Nosa Ebomwonyi and Sam Marshall each scored four. Anthony Davis added three points and Clashon Gaffney and Jesse Hill each had a bucket.

Tarleton will resume Lone Star Conference play when they host Angelo State on Thursday, Jan. 4, at 7:30 p.m.
