Tarleton men's basketball fell in a non-conference game against No. 16 Western Oregon, 80-72, on Tuesday in Wisdom Gym.
Tarleton struggled out of the gate as the Texans started 0-5 from the field with five turnovers over the opening 5:06 while Western Oregon built a 9-0 lead. Corinthian Ramsey got the Texans on the board with a three-pointer to kickstart the Texan offense. Ramsey's three was followed up by a Deshawn Riddick three and a Ramsey three-point play to bring things back to even at 9-9.
After Western Oregon retook the lead on its ensuing offensive possession, the Wolves carried the lead over the rest of the opening half while the Texans pulled as close as two points on two different occasions. Tarleton went into the halftime break trailing by six at 33-27.
Out of the break, Tarleton came out swinging to the tune of a 9-2 run to take a 36-35 lead with 18:18 left in the game. Jaraan Lands got the run started with the first three points before three technical foul free throws and a three-pointer from Riddick gave the Texans their first lead of the night.
The game was a back-and-forth affair over the next 15:40 as neither team led by more than a single possession until Western Oregon took a 67-62 lead into the final four minutes of the game. Tarleton pulled as close as three on a Josh Hawley layup with 3:03left, but would get no closer the rest of the way.
Ramsey led all scorers with 25 points, including 15 of the team's 27 in the first half, while Deshawn Riddick poured in 17 points on 4-6 shooting, including 3-3 from downtown, and a 6-6 night at the charity stripe.
Josh Hawley recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds and Jaraan Lands added 10 points.
The Texans will take on Wayland Baptist on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
