Tarleton had four players score in double figures and the Texan defense gave up a season-low in points in an 87-61 rout over St. Mary's on Saturday at Wisdom Gym.
Josh Hawley led all scorers with 22 points, while Ramsey added 21 to pace the Texan offense that shot a season-high 53 percent from the floor.
The Texans (3-2) were lights out on the deep ball early on, making their first four 3-point attempts to jump out to a 14-3 lead. Four of the first five baskets were 3-pointers with Deshawn Riddick making two, followed by Hawley and Ramsey each adding one. The Texans went 8-of-18 (44 percent) on 3-pointers in the game.
Tarleton maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game and took advantage at the foul line, making 29-of-41 of its attempts. 12 of the final 14 points in the first half by Tarleton came at the free throw line as the Texans led 44-27 at the break.
Jaraan Lands opened the second half with four straight points, including a two-handed dunk for a 48-29 lead. Lands' dunk started a 9-0 run for the Texans to pad the lead to 55-29.
Leading 70-55, Anthony Davis scored six straight points of his own over a two-minute span to stretch the Texans' lead back over 20 with under four minutes left in the game. Davis scored a season-high 12 points to go with four rebounds.
Deshawn Riddick led the Texan defense with a career-high six steals (previous high was three) and added a season-best 15 points with four assists and three rebounds.
Clashon Gaffney had his most efficient game of his young career as the freshman had career highs in points (7) and rebounds (5) while also blocking a game-high two shots.
Preston Enloe added three points, while Lance Ewell scored two and Nosa Ebomwonyi had one. Ebomwonyi was one of three players with multiple steals, joining Riddick and Hawley (2). The Texans had a season-high 12 steals in the game.
Tarleton will begin Lone Star Conference play on the road as the Texans travel to Midwestern State on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 7:30 p.m.
