The Class 4A Stephenville High School Yellow Jackets took on Class 6A Abilene High Tuesday in Gandy Gym and suffered their second loss of the young basketball season.
The Jackets fell by a 62-44 margin to the Eagles, closing out their basketball week going into the Thanksgiving break. Stephenville shot 35 percent from the field overall, compared to 44 percent by the Eagles.
Skylar Stilwell led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 24 points. Teammate Mason Holstein added a dozen points and 4 steals.
"They are a 6A playoff team, and we competed well against them," SHS boys coach Bill Brooks said of the Abilene High contest. "We had some good execution on the offensive end, and we had confidence in our shots."
On Monday, the Jackets lost to Graham on the road, 63-42, taking their first loss. Holstein had a team-high 14 points and 5 steals. Stilwell added 12 points.
The Jackets made just 26 percent of their shots from the field overall, while Graham sank 38 percent. The Steers also out-rebounded the Jackets, 30-27.
Brooks’ Stephenville squad is 2-2 on the season entering the next game, Tuesday night at Dublin (varsity at 8 p.m.). The Jackets will then play in a tournament in Brock Thursday through Saturday.
