Tarleton cruised to its seventh consecutive win as the No. 15 TexAnns swept Cameron in a Lone Star Conference showdown at Wisdom Gym Friday night. The TexAnns will return to action for 'Pink Out' day tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Midwestern State.
Tarleton was forced to rally back early as Cameron came out swinging to the tune of an 8-3 lead in the opening set, but a kill and a service ace from Amber Strange on back-to-back points started a dominant 13-4 run for Tarleton to put the TexAnns up 16-12.
After Cameron pulled back within two, Hailey Roberts landed a kill to start the set-clinching 9-3 run - which Adriana Darthuy ended with a kill shot for the 25-17 win.
The second set saw more of the back-and-forth battle as the set was tied through the opening 26 points at 13-13. Tarleton quickly pulled away with two Cameron errors and a block from Roberts and Strange and carried the lead to set point at 24-21. Cameron clawed back, however, and scored four unanswered to take an extra-point advantage at 25-24 before Roberts took over in dominant fashion by landing three consecutive kills to win the set 27-25.
In the final set, Tarleton jumped out to a 14-3 lead and never looked back as the TexAnns cruised to a 25-10 victory, capped off by Strange's second ace of the match.
Roberts and Darthuy combined for 26 kills with 13 each. Roberts hit .500 for the match while Darthuy boasted a .370 hitting clip. Adrianna Knutson led the team with 11 digs while Jordyn Keamo(26) and Blanca Izquierdo (12) combined to dish out 38 assists on the night.
