The Stephenville High School Honeybees secured third place in the Bronze Bracket Saturday on the third and final day of the Granbury Volleyball Tournament.

Coach Fran Metzger’s squad, now 10-10 on the season, defeated Trinity, 25-12, 25-19, in the third-place match. In its other Bronze Bracket games Saturday, SHS beat Haltom 25-5, 25-18, then lost to Granbury, 25-22, 25-3.

The Honeybees had opened pool play Thursday with a 26-24, 25-19 win over L.D. Bell, followed by a 1925, 26-24, 25-14 loss to Sherman, and a 25-11, 25-11 setback against Lake Dallas.

In Friday’s pool play matches, the Honeybees fell to Abilene Wylie 25-21, 25-19, and to Burleson High School 25-19, 25-22. They closed Friday’s action with a Bronze Bracket victory over Burleson Centennial, 26-17, 20-25, 25-21.

“The girls competed well Saturday after struggling Friday,” Metzger said. “We struggled Friday with too many hitting errors but came back and hit well Saturday. We had great competition and lots of good experience.”

In the Centennial match to open bracket play in the Honeybees’ last match on Friday, Jayci Morton had a team-high 12 kills and Ashton Garner added 10 for SHS. Hailey Martin led with 15 digs, while Maren Isham added 13.

In the win over Haltom Saturday, they Honeybees got seven kills from Salette Rios, and five each from Chloe Goodman and Morton. In the loss to Granbury, SHS got 10 digs from Hannah Huckabee.

In the third-place match versus Trinity, Morton and Garner posted seven and six kills, respectively. Martin had 14 digs and Kristen Pettit added nine.

The Honeybees played Tuesday night at home against Fort Worth Brewer. They are scheduled for their third tournament of the season, Thursday through Friday in Leander Volleypallooza tournament. Their first pool play match is set for 11 a.m. Thursday against San Antonio Clark, followed by pool matches later that day against A&M Consolidated and Georgetown East View.
