A year after a surprise run to the TAPPS Class 2A state tournament, the first by the program in five seasons, Texoma Christian faced big expectations.

And if not for a double-overtime loss, the Eagles would have punched a second straight appearance in the final four.

TCS may have lost its last game, but the only other time they suffered a defeat came in the season-opener (another loss turned to a win due to a forfeit, which came against Canyon Creek Christian, the team that eliminated TCS in the region final) against Aubrey.

Nate Langenbahn, in his ninth season at Texoma Christian, oversaw 29 victories in between, including titles at both the S&S and NCTC Tournaments.

The Eagles, with just a single senior starter and just two seniors on the roster, also went a perfect 14-0 in TAPPS District 2-2A before falling one basket short of the state tournament.

“Good players with good IQs make coaches look good,” Langenbahn said. “Coaches can do their part but players have to play.”

For his efforts, Langenbahn has been named the Herald Democrat All-Texomaland Boys Basketball Coach of the Year for the 2016-17 season.
