The Stephenville Chamber of Commerce celebrated the new cat house called Whisker Haven at the Erath County Humane Society with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 5. The Erath County Humane Society has been a vital part of our community since 1976, standing by its mission to provide Kindness, Justice & Mercy to Every Living Creature. As a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, ECHS is dedicated to caring for unwanted and lost animals, reuniting lost pets with their families, and helping adoptable animals find safe, loving homes. Attendees had the opportunity to tour the facility, meet the passionate team behind ECHS, and explore Whisker Havena new, climate-controlled area created to give cats and kittens a calm, quiet environment as they await adoption.Working closely with local law enforcement, ECHS also plays an active role in addressing animal cruelty and ensuring all adopted pets meet legal requirements, including spaying or neutering, vaccinations, and city licensing. While they receive some public funding, ECHS is primarily supported through private donations and community volunteers. Their life-saving work is only possible thanks to the generosity and involvement of local individuals and businesses.
