America is at war again.
America lost more than 58,200 over nine years in the Vietnam War.
The Korean War cost 33,700 lives over three years.
The novel coronavirus, called COVID-19, could be described as a secret weapon that has taken more than 67,000 American lives, and the death count continues to climb. It can be expected to exceed the 1968 pandemic H3N2 (sometimes referred to as the Hong Kong Flu) that killed more than 100,000 Americans, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Other viruses originating in China include the 1996 Avian or Bird Flu (H5N1), and SARS in 2003.
There is little doubt this latest virus came from China. The only questions being asked are whether it was by accident or deliberate. Initial reports suggest an accident.
If by deliberate action, that would be an act of war.
If by accident, that could be incompetence and malfeasance, but not necessarily a crime against humanity.
U.S. intelligence is now conducting an official investigation into the origins of this virus.
The city of Wuhan was locked down only after about 5 million people moved to other areas in China, the U.S., Italy, and elsewhere, according to Business Insider.
Then the Western press was expelled, including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and Washington Post. Additionally, no foreign medical experts from organizations like our CDC could visit the Wuhan lab, reports said.
The disinformation campaign began to take the blame away from China. The United Nations and especially the World Health Organization have been a disgrace.
While this was going on, China secretly started buying tons of medical protection gear and devices. Later, after only three months, when the pandemic was in full swing, they started selling it at higher prices.
China is guilty of the highest order of egregious, mendacious conduct creating a crime against humanity.
Consider the consequences to date: According to CDC counts as of May 1, more than 3 million people in 184 countries worldwide have contracted the virus. About 234,000 have died. The United States has an estimated 1 million infected and over 63,000 deaths. In all cases, the death rate continues, as there is no vaccine.
The numbers are breathtaking.
It begs the question: How should China be penalized for releasing this new pandemic on the world?
Here are some first, obvious thoughts that come to my mind.
We could look for a credit against the massive debt accumulated since they joined the World Trade Organization. One trillion dollars would be a good start. In a worst-case scenario, we could "nationalize the debt as war reparations."
Failing this, unleash individual lawsuits by American private and governmental interests.
Immediately, we need China to sign Phase II and III of President Donald Trump's trade agreement that has been in negotiation for a year.
The USA should consider organizing an "International Court of Infectious Diseases" (ICID) in The Hague, Netherlands, to conduct investigations into such pandemics and decide on blame and penalties. In the Wuhan case, the ICID needs to do a full investigation.
We should demand that all super biomedical research labs for viruses in China be terminated and the Wuhan laboratories be closed.
We need to take steps to bring all manufacturing and key supply chains of "essential products" back from China and elsewhere to America. This includes all pharmaceutical medicines, medical devices, communications and network gear (Huawei), and related software.
Mandate that computer data must not be transmitted to or through China for any reason. We also want to prevent the use of China's 5G and future XG and other essential high technologies.
To ensure the WHO does not become a political hack of China, we must demand China not be classified as a third-world country and should pay their fair share of the WHO budget. China has proven to be a predatory player in the world's economy. Also, demand the resignation of the WHO director-general, Tedros Adhanom, who was nominated by China.
We must brace ourselves for the next lethal pandemic, which appears to be on a track to occur every 10 years or sooner due to mutations, mistakes and potential for mass murder.
War always results in change and accountability. We must learn from this horrific episode in human history and demand change.
Without accountability, will we ever feel safe again?
