October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

According to the Texas Council on Family Violence, 1 in 4 women have been victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.

The council defines domestic violence as a pattern of controlling behaviors that one partner uses to gain power over the other.

Cross Timbers Family Services is a local non-profit organization that provides crisis intervention, counseling and legal assistance to victims of violent crime.  CTFS has adopted the National Resource Center for Domestic Violence's unified message of #1Thing as this year's theme.

Each person can do #1Thing that when coupled together with others in the community, these #1Things can lead to real change.

Your #1Thing can be as simple as becoming a hotline volunteer, donating toiletries or snacks to CTFS clients or visiting our website to learn more about how to help a friend in a domestic violence situation.

So what's your #1Thing?

For help call the Cross Timbers Family Services Hotline at 866-934-4357.
