Perry D. Elliott, 85, died on Jan. 9, 2021, at Stephenville Harris Methodist Hospital surrounded by his beloved wife and daughter. He was born on Sept. 26, 1935, in Sweetwater, Texas, to Joe and Ava Elliott. He was the Elliotts' only child.

Perry spent his early years in Buffalo Gap. He graduated from Wylie High School in 1954. After high school, Perry studied for three years at Arlington State College (now UT Arlington). He also attended various banking schools to further his banking career.

Perry married his high school sweetheart, Meldeene Roberts, in August 1956 in Abilene, Texas. They were happily married for over 64 years. Contributing to their happiness was their annual golfing vacation trip to Hilton Head, S.C., with their beloved friends Don and Nicki Beth Jones.

Perry is survived by his wife, Meldeene; his daughter, Marisa Elliott and her spouse, Stephanie Carreon-Elliott, of Dallas, Texas; and his son, Scott Elliott of Dallas, Texas.

Perry was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ava Elliott.

Perry began his distinguished banking career in 1960 at Citizens National Bank in Abilene. His most notable positions included President of Bank of America in Stephenville, Texas; and Chairman of the Board and President/CEO of First Financial Bank in Southlake, Cleburne, and Stephenville, Texas. Perry retired from First Financial Bank in Stephenville in March 2008.

Perry was a community builder and as such he was a dedicated civil leader who served as President and Board Member for Stephenville United Way for 20 years. He served as Chair and Board Member for Harris Methodist Hospital for 13 years. He also served as President of Stephenville Chamber of Commerce and Optimist clubs. He sat on Stephenville City Council for two terms. Additionally, he was a Board Member of Foster’s Home for Children and received the Walter F. Johnson Award in May 2007.

Perry loved everything Tarleton State University especially Tarleton athletics. He was a founding member and served as the President of Tarleton’s Texans’ Club for 8 years and had been a member of the Club for over 45 years. He served on the Club’s Advisory Board since 1993. Perry, along with his wife Meldeene, attended hundreds of games and they were two of the Texans’ and TexAnns’ most dedicated fans. Perry was inducted into the athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.

Perry was a devoted man in all aspects of his life. His dear friends Don Jones and Bobby Glasgow describe him as compassionate, loyal, honorable, competitive, focused and brother. His family describes him as a loving husband and father who always put his family first.

Perry was an avid golfer. It was Don and Bobby, joined by Les Patterson, who made up the ideal foursome. Perry said that once you have your foursome there is no reason to ever leave it. Eventually, the foursome grew to 14 men who played golf at noon every day.

A funeral service will be held at Cowboy Church of Erath County at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 13, 2021. The family requests that all attendees always wear face masks. A private graveside burial will follow the funeral at West End Cemetery.
