STEPHENVILLE - Garvey Richard Hess, 77, of Stephenville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020 in Granbury.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020 at the Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Darrell Wallace officiating. Interment will follow at the West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Garvey was born on Nov. 27, 1942 in Archie, Missouri to the late Joseph and Dorothy George Hess. He married Janice Pulliam on Sept. 3, 1965 in Harrisonville, MO and together they raised two children. Garvey and Janice owned and operated the Three Way store and he previously was a truck driver and worked in construction. Garvey was very involved in the BSA as a youth, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He always regarded this as one of his proudest accomplishments. Gary has resided in Stephenville for many years and was a member of the Selden Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Janice Hess of Stephenville; son, Robbie Hess and wife Cindy of Stephenville; daughter, Sherry Roe and husband Andy of Harrisonville, MO; grandchildren, Jordan Hess of Stephenville, Kayson Roe of Harrisonville, and Ryan Hess of Stephenville; his siblings, Joe Hess, Janice Strawbridge, and Glenn Hess.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Dorothy Hess; brothers, Larry Hess, and Jerry Hess; and a sister, Barbara Heid.
