STEPHENVILLE — Verne Albertson Scott, Jr., 84, a retired veterinarian died Saturday, October 17, 2009, at a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2009, at the First Baptist Church with Reverend Emil V. Becker officiating. Burial will be at West End Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at Lacy Funeral Home.

Dr. Scott was born on June 22, 1925, to Dr. Verne Albertson Scott, Sr. and Anna Pearl Kern in Stephenville. He attended the public schools of Stephenville and John Tarleton College where he participated in sports and academics; and Texas A and M College, where he served as cadet colonel during WWII. Following his graduation in 1946 and attaining his veterinary medical degree, he served in the US Army as a Captain, transporting mules to Greece and facilitating food inspections at the Port of New Orleans. In 1949, he returned to Dublin, where he joined his father in the practice of veterinary medicine, which he did for 53 years. He married Eva Jo Flynt on June 17,1950, in Ballinger and they have lived in Erath County for their entire married life.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stephenville. He was a member of the Dublin Rotary Club where he served as president. Beyond his career, he was an avid fisherman, bridge player, and golfer, member of the Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Association of Former Students of Texas A and M University.
Survivors include his wife Eva Jo Scott of Stephenville; his daughter Susan Scott Reeves and husband, J. Michael Reeves, of Edmond, OK; his son, Bob Scott of Grand Lake, CO; his brother and sister-in-law Albert and Ann Scott of Bridgeport; his four grandchildren, Carrie Pack and husband, Austin; Rachael Reeves; Nathan Reeves and wife Jenna; Hanna Reeves; and one great-grandson, Carter Pack, nephew David and wife Karen Scott, and niece Rebecca and husband Brent Kay .
