Dorothy M. Denecke

STEPHENVILLE - Dorothy M. Denecke, 86, a retired school librarian, died Saturday, August 22, 2009, at a Fort Worth hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at First Christian Church with Rev. Rachel Ganther and Elder Debbie Hines officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at Hillcrest Burial Park Cemetery in Waxahachie. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2009, at Lacy Funeral Home. Dorothy was born April 9, 1923, in Waxahachie, the daughter of Claud and Bess Bynum. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, George A. Denecke, on June 3, 2003.

She is survived by a son, George A. Denecke, Virginia Beach, Virginia; 5 grandchildren; a sister, Bettie West, South Fork, Colorado; a niece, Celeste Cate, Phoenix, Arizona; and numerous cousins and friends.

Dorothy graduated from Waxahachie High School. She attended Trinity University in Waxahachie, and received her B.A. degree from Texas State College for Women in Denton, now known as Texas Woman’s University. Dorothy was school librarian in Mexia, Corsicana, Nacogdoches, Denver City, and Goldsmith. Dorothy married George Denecke December 26, 1953 in Waxahachie.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Past Matron of Goldsmith Eastern Star and received her 50 year award, and was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi. Dorothy and George moved to Stephenville in 1984 when George retired from Shell Oil Company.
