STEPHENVILLE—Funeral services for Dr. Monty Stephen Banks, 60, husband, father and pillar of the community, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the First United Methodist Church of Stephenville with Rev. Howard Martin officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, at Stephenville Funeral Home.
Monty was born in Freeport, Texas to the late Morris and Norma Montgomery Banks.
Monty graduated from Brazosport High School in 1974. He attended the University of Houston where he earned his Doctor of Optometry. He married Connie Sorrells on July 6, 1985, in Stephenville. Together they raised children, Sarah, Stephen, and Andrew in Stephenville.
Monty served our community as an optometrist for over 32 years, as owner of Texas State Optical. He was active in the Stephenville Optimist Club, Tarleton’s Ultra Club Big Band, Boy Scouts, and the Polar Bears of Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Monty supported local organizations in countless ways.
Monty was patient, gentle, and kind, and though a man of few words he was regularly quick witted.
Monty is survived by his wife, Connie; children, Sarah and husband Justin Clements, Stephen and wife Ashley Banks, and Andrew and wife Courtney Banks; sister, Morrissia Banks; and his mother-in-law Patsy Sorrells
The Banks family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Stephenville Education Foundation, American Heart Association, or Sight for Kids.
