Normally, the Stephenville Independent School District Board of Trustees would hear an audit presentation this month, but because the Texas Education Agency has fallen behind in their reports, that did not happen during Monday night's meeting.

Tracy Ray, assistant superintendent for business/finance, TEA has many new employees and is struggling to keep up.

“The audit went very well, Ray said.

She said she hopes to have the needed report from TEA by the end of the week so the audit presentation can be made in November.

The Stephenville School District is one up on the state when it comes to physical education classes. Recently, the Commissioner of Education selected “Fitnessgram as an instrument of assessment for the classes. A tool SISD has had in place for more than 10 years, according to assistant superintendent for personnel/curriculum, Debbie Hines. She said the gauge for fitness levels is mandated by the state to be performed once a year but the district chooses to give the test once in the fall and once in the spring so that students can realize progress made over the school year. Hines said the program is a collaborative effort with Tarleton State University and her understanding is that as many as 25 school districts will be visiting SISD when the fall tests are given in November for a better understanding to help implement the program at those schools.

Hines also said the State/UIL random steroid testing was set to begin this month but the state has postponed the testing without an alternative start date given. She said the program is new and schools and students will be selected randomly with the state picking up the bill for testing.
