Around midnight on Friday the 13th, two men’s luck ran out when they were caught allegedly selling marijuana.

According to Stephenville Police Chief Roy Halsell, investigators arranged the purchase of marijuana from suspected dealers which led to the arrests.

“Investigators set up the buy and the two men showed up and made the sale,” Halsell said.

Once the exchange was made, Halsell said the dealing duo drove away from the scene and was immediately stopped by a patrol officer who found more marijuana and an unidentified white powder in the vehicle.

Ernesto Gutierrez Rodriguez, 21, and Jorge Alberto Gonzalez, 20, were arrested and charged with delivery of marijuana, more than four grams but less than five pounds, a state jail felony.

They were also charged with possession of a controlled substance believed to be cocaine and possession of marijuana.

Halsell said the charges could be enhanced due to the location of the arrest, which was directly across Washington Street from Tarleton State University, a drug-free zone.

The arrests are the result of an ongoing effort to take drugs and drug dealers off the streets, Halsell said.

“Our narcotics officers are doing a great job,” Halsell said.
