MacDonald’s Farm near Huckabay produced a whopper of an egg this week.
Marie MacDonald said she was surprised to find a 3.9 ounce egg, produced by a six-month-old Buff Orpington chicken.
A normal sized chicken egg weighs approximately 1.7 ounces. Double-yolked eggs are usually 2.4 to 2.7 ounces.
According to The Guiness Book of World Records, the largest chicken egg was found in China, tipping the scales at 6.99 ounces.
Marie, husband Scott, and their three children live between Lingleville and Huckabay and are homestead farmers, which is a self-sufficient life style.
They raise rabbits and chicken for table meat, chickens for eggs, and goats for milk. Their 300’x30’ garden is entirely organic. Pumpkins were a bumper crop this year
Marie said that she began the homestead project about six months ago with Scott reluctantly joining her. She enjoys her specialized farming endeavor and is excited about the poultry’s egg production, but her husband has said that the only chicken he likes is from Chicken Express.
