Despite pleas from three Dublin citizens urging the school board not to demolish the old intermediate campus, the board authorized Superintendent Shaun Barnett to seek bids to demolish buildings on the school's campus Monday night.

Barnett said the move is for planning purposes only as the school board considers a possible bond election.

"This action doesn't commit us to anything," Barnett said. "Bids we receive will help the community's bond election committee and the board make a decision."

The community bond election committee will make a recommendation to the board on improvements to campuses and other items during its Dec. 13 meeting. The board will use the information to decide if they will call a bond election to be on the May ballot.

The request for bids differs from past requests because it only calls for keeping 500 stones of the original building, and there is no equipment that must be moved out before demolition can begin

Barnett expects to open bids Dec. 9 for review.
