Police held a Stephenville man at gunpoint Wednesday after he led them on a pursuit through several residential streets in town.
Jose Omar Martinez, 21, refused to pull over after authorities clocked him traveling at 64 miles per hour on Lingleville Road. When Lt. Ted Helms signaled for Martinez to pull over, the suspect allegedly refused to do so and continued driving, turning onto McCart Street, Elm, and finally Kight Street.
Martinez, who was driving a black Chevrolet pickup, was held at gunpoint until assistance arrived.
“A pursuit heightens the tension,” Halsell said. “He had the gun out for protection.”
Halsell said the man might have just wanted to get the truck back home because he may not have owned it.
Martinez was arrested and charged with speeding and evading arrest. He is being held on a $3,000 bond in Erath County Jail.
