Stephenville residents in the 200 block of Oak Street were startled by the sound of gunfire Saturday night.
David Lopez, 23, was arrested late Saturday night for felony in possession of a firearm and charged with resisting arrest after firing a shotgun from a vehicle on Oak Street around 9:30 p.m.
Stephenville Police Chief Roy Halsell said Lopez, a Stephenville resident, was drunk when he hung out of the window of a silver 2000 Pontiac Grand Am and fired the shotgun into the air.
Police were dispatched to the area where they found Lopez and two other people inside the car.
When the officer attempted to arrest Lopez, who reportedly has a prior felony conviction, he resisted. The driver and other passenger of the car were not arrested or charged in the incident.
Halsell said there were no injuries reported and that the bullet did not strike any structures.
