The “Red Hot Region III” division of the Texas High School Rodeo Association is hosting two rodeos this weekend at Lonestar Arena. Region III officials estimate approximately 500 contestants will converge on Stephenville for two full days of competition.
The rodeos, sanctioned by the TSHRA, are fourth and fifth for the year, in which youth rodeo competitors compete for points and cash in an effort to qualify for the TSHRA state finals in June. Young rodeo competitors participate in three age divisions - youth, junior high and high school.
Youth contestants will sell raffle tickets for a trip to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December. The winner is scheduled to be drawn at approximately noon on Sunday. Additionally, there will be a silent auction during the rodeo in an effort to raise funds for travel expenses for those qualifiers to the state finals.
Performances start at 8 a.m. each day and admission is free.
“Red Hot Region III” competitors have made a name for themselves with earning state champion bragging rights last year and sending five contestants to the 2007 National High School Finals Rodeo that were held in Springfield, IL including Tuff Cooper and Jake Cobb, Cliff Cooper and Clayton Shaw, Jayci Miller, all representing Region III.
