It’s beginning to feel a lot like summer vacation - especially for students at Henderson Junior High School who took part in a Reading Rally Friday at Stephenville City Park.

An estimated 450 students took a break from their usual studies to enjoy a day of fun while participating in basketball, volleyball and soccer tournaments, Karen Pippin, HJHS reading teacher, said.

“It’s a great day for the students - they all had a lot of fun,” Pippin said. “This is our way of rewarding them for taking care of business.”

The Reading Rally was a reward for students who earned a minimum of 30 Accelerated Reading (AR) points during the school year.

A multitude of activities were made available to the students including face painting hosted by the art students, arts and crafts, a pedestal joust and rock climbing. Lunch and various snacks and drinks were also on hand for the kids to enjoy.

Area students will attend only 13 more days of class before the real summer vacation gets rolling.
