Youths went slipping and sliding down hills in the Stephenville City Park for fun Monday, as area residents tried to make the best of icy conditions that continued to blanket the region and prompted a majority of people to remain indoors.
Moisture received over the weekend totaled .83 of an inch, boosting the area’s January total to 1.74 inches, which is above the average January total of 1.70 inches, said Stuart Chilton, “weather watcher” for Channel 8 in Dallas.
“Thus Stephenville now has two consecutive months with above average rainfall - December 2006 and January 2007,” Chilton said. It’s the “first time to have two consecutive months (with) above average rainfall since February and March 2006.”
And for that, Chilton said, Stephenville residents should be pleased.
Temperatures were expected to drop to around 20 degrees Monday night before rising to a high of 34 degrees today.
According to the National Weather Service, local weather is predicted to be “mostly cloudy” with a north/northwest wind of between 5 and 10 mph today. Tonight, forecasters predict that it will be “cloudy,” with a low around 24 degrees.
